UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said we can’t afford mistakes in football after it was confirmed that VAR will be used in the Champions League knockout stage.

The draw for the round of 16 of the 2018-19 UEFA Champions League will be made at 11 a.m. GMT / 6 a.m. ET on Monday, Dec. 17.

Group winners will be drawn against group runners-up. Teams from the same national association cannot face each other, nor can teams who played each other in the group stage of this season’s competition.

Group winners will be away in the first leg, with ties to be played on Feb. 12, 13 and 19, 20. Return legs will be played on March 5, 6 and 12, 13.

Qualified as group winners: Barcelona, FC Porto, Real Madrid
Qualified as group runners-up: AS Roma, Schalke
Qualified (position TBC): Ajax, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, Manchester City, Manchester United, plus 4 TBC

UEFA will revert to drawing the quarterfinal and semifinal ties on the same day from this season, scheduled for March 15.

The final will take place in Spain at Atletico Madrid’s Estadio Metropolitano on Saturday, June 1.
